The GD interface was built to be confusing so it can trick you into buying stuff you don't need. Even more sickening is that Go Daddy doesn't allow you to deactivate an account. They want to keep, and profit off, your personal information forever. That shouldn't be legal but arguing with their customer service reps will get you nowhere. A better option is Domain.com. Domain names go for $10 / year and they don't try to harvest your soul.
