I first saw Dave Chappelle in '94 at Nell's in NYC. It was an open mic situation. He stepped in off the street, high as a kite, and delivered an unforgettable comedy routine. I remember thinking, once more people see this dude he's going to be a big star. I can watch episodes of Chappelle's Show all day and never stop laughing. Even though I have all the skits committed to memory, his cleverness never gets old. Chappelle is a constant reminder that it's important to have a good sense of humor and that you can be serious about your work without taking yourself too seriously. One of my favorite sketches from Chappelle's Show is "Black Bush." Dave portrays George W. Bush as a black man in an effort to clarify to white people what the actions of the Bush administration looked like from a different cultural perspective.
